Chicken and Carrot Sausage Rolls

We love sausage rolls in our house. They are my last minute dinner recipe and a great way to use up lots of vegetables as the base mix is so versatile. These are great as they are full of carroty goodness. You can substitute it for sweet potato or pumpkin if desired. I make batches of these and keep them in the freezer for a quick reheatable dinner. My boys love them in their lunchboxes as well. My other [...]

Veggie Bam Sausage Rolls

My boys looooooove sausage rolls and I often make chicken ones (lots on the recipe index) but thought Id try something different earlier this week. These Veggie Bam Sausage Rolls were a massive hit! These sausage rolls have a big portion of veggies in them but still has a high meat ratio for all those meat eaters. The vegetables are actually quite tricky to spot. I love these because it has veggies in the mix that my kiddies wouldn't [...]

Chicken and Roasted Capsicum Sausage Rolls

I know, I know. Another sausage roll recipe. I wasn't going to post this but they were just too tasty!!!    These are a really nice change to my regular ones. The capsicum adds a very slight sweetness and makes the filling moist and delicious even though it uses breast meat.    I love these kind of meals as its fairly quick and always a hit with the kids. They would never eat capsicum normally so I like the extra [...]

Parmesan Chicken Sausage Rolls

I can't take a decent picture of sausage rolls to save myself. I wish this photo showed how delicious these were.  I had to take it quickly before little fingers snatched them away.   The parmesan adds a different twist on my original Chicken and Vegetable Sausage Rolls.   This makes 48 sausage rolls. Trust me when I say they don't last long! You'll gobble up 48 before you know it! You can freeze these before of after cooking for a [...]

Chicken and Vegetable Sausage Rolls: Revisited

These are one of my original recipes redone. I have tweaked it to use less chicken and more vegetables to be a budget friendly meal. One chicken breast gives 36 sausage rolls. Use any veggies you like. These are a great last minute dinner idea. The kiddies love these and gobble them all up. I love how the filling takes less than a minute to make and is nice and healthy (minus the pastry) with lots of hidden veggies. I [...]

Hoisin Chicken Rolls

These Hoison Chicken Rolls are a recipe that was featured in my 2015 Calendar and has been so popular I thought I would add it to the blog for those that missed out on the calendar. These are great for the lunchbox. Make a batch the night before, store in an airtight container in the fridge and take to school or work the next day. You can certainly vary the fillings inside to suit your tastes. Other delicious one [...]

Healthy Coloured Popcorn

Join us We are celebrating 1 year of The 4 Blades Mag! What an exciting 12 months it has been. We celebrated by creating a party issue full of your favourite party recipes! A favourite childhood party treat was coloured popcorn. Unfortunately they are often loaded with A LOT of refined sugar (45g per 100g of coloured popcorn. Now I love sugar. I'm not going to lie but that's a lot!) and artificial colours etc which isn't always fab for [...]

My Ultimate Thermomix Lunchbox Guide

Note: This Guide replaces my Ultimate Lunchbox Resource that was previously on the blog.   Lunchboxes are something I get quite excited about. I don’t know why but it is something I get a kick out of. Crazy I know. I can appreciate that lunchbox ideas are often hard. We end up repeating the same thing day in and day out, not that children mind all that much I’ve found. It’s always good to add some variety though. I’ve [...]

From fridge to freezer: 200 freezer friendly recipes!

I am often asked about what recipes I have on the blog that are great for freezing. Believe it or not, most of mine are freezer friendly! Some of my freezing tips for cooked foods: Cool foods before you freeze them. Placing hot food straight into a freezer only brings the core temperature of the freezer down and also encourages ice build up on the food as its cools and freezes. Wrap and store the food item well before [...]

Thai Coconut Chicken Parcels

I'm not usually a huge fan of coconut but boy am I loving everything chicken and coconut at the moment, particularly with Thai flavours. I recently made my Thai Chicken Sausage Rolls and the flavours inspired these parcels. They are mild enough for the kiddies. They have a good kick of lime so if you aren't a fan of lime, reduce the amount. If you like things a little hotter you can certainly add more chilli to suit your [...]

Honey Mustard Chicken Bites

Honey Mustard chicken is a big hit in this house. I thought I would do a bit of a twist. These were quite tasty served along with salad but you could shape them much bigger and use as a burger patty or serve in tortillas or spinach wraps. These can be frozen and popped into the lunchbox or reheated for a quick lunch or dinner. Use this mixture for meatballs or sausage rolls.      [...]

Hidden Vegetable Meals and Tips for Children (and husbands!)

After ten years+ working in child care as well as five and three year old boys I know how strongly some children feel about not eating vegetables. My five year old has decided he dislikes most "begetables" and of course the three year old has decided if his brother hates them then so does he. You would think we were trying to feed them poison. The death stares I would get if I dared to add onion to a [...]

Roasted Capsicum and Tomato Paste

I cant believe I haven't posted this Roasted Capsicum and Tomato Paste recipe yet as it is one of my most used recipes alongside my bread recipe. This should be a staple in all fridges or freezers alongside your vegetable stock concentrate. I love making tomato paste. It adds so much flavour to your your tomato based sauces, pizza bases and breads. What I love about this is you can really vary the flavours to it. Add some chilli [...]
